Sean Chok
Student Research Assistant
As an aspiring mechanical engineer, Sean loves learning new knowledge and skills from people who are really passionate about science and technology. The way he achieves this is by participating in numerous projects that each have a small and focused team. He genuinely believes that this is the best way to share what each person knows through active collaboration, without the need for pen and paper, but with meaningful discussions and common purposes. Some of the teams that he joined worked on various fields of engineering, such as robotics, and web technologies; all of which he has fortunately met people who taught and gave him valuable insights. These are also the people who motivate him to be better everyday than the day before.
At the Healthy Cities laboratory, Sean assists its members to the best extent of his capability, which includes building a website to better promote what the lab does, as well as helping conduct experiments to understand how a person’s thermal and respiratory comfort is affected by wearing a mask. Despite the short duration that he would be here, he hopes to make a positive contribution to the lab; through this work, he wishes to inspire his peers to take action, and try something different from any school curriculum.

Xinjie Huang
MPhil Student
Xinjie joined Healthy Cities Lab as an MPhil student at HKU in Fall 2020. Before joining HKU, he obtained his B.Eng. degree in Building Environment and Energy Engineering at Southeast University in China. His research interests focus on understanding heat and moisture transport in the complex urban environment with an emphasis on their thermal comfort impacts. Specially, his research works at our lab include developing urban canopy models with a building emission module, a street tree module, and a human thermal comfort model to better capture urban moisture dynamics and street-level thermal stress. Dachuan Shi
PhD Student
Dachuan Shi became a Ph.D. student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong since July 2020. His research interests include (1) urban blue and green space optimization, (2) human-environment adaptive thermal stress modelling, and (3) urban building energy simulation, etc. Before this role, he received his Master's degree in Building and Civil Engineering in 2019, from Chongqing University, focusing on the effect of cool roof and green roof on the building energy efficiency and urban thermal environment, including monitoring, modelling, and simulation. Additionally, he obtained his bachelor's degree in Building Environment and Facility Engineering in 2016, from Jiangsu University of Science and technology. In the past years, he has published 26 SCI articles, got 4 patents, and 3 national-level prizes, and he gained the China National Postgraduate Scholarship twice.

Qilong Zhong
PhD Student
Qilong became a member of Healthy Cities Lab as a Ph.D. student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) since Sept. 2021. He obtained his B.S. in Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), China. His key research interest is in urban fluid mechanics via both experiments and CFD simulations. His past research efforts are mainly on the investigation of multi-scale microclimate on human thermal comfort and health in both indoor and outdoor environments, including (1) COVID-19 pandemics and human health: Protective facemask-induced facial thermal stress and breathing burden during exercise in gyms, and (2) Urban blue space and human health: City cooling via urban lake breeze circulation and optimized lakefront urban design.
